Jess Scully uses her creativity and the arts to help propagate ideas and innovation to the rest of the world.
Jess is an artist, who did it all in the communications field. She is on the mission to transform Australia into a knowledge economy.
Jess Scully was born in Sydney. During her childhood, she spent most of her time at her grandmother’s fashion workroom – this was also where her artistic fervour was born.
Growing up from a family of designers and artists, Jess thought it would be fun to try something new and so she studied journalism and law.
However, she didn’t finish university as she made her way back to the arts. Soon after, Jess started doing five jobs at a time and found herself as a wearer of many hats including as a magazine editor, art’s adviser, newscaster and as a radio presenter.
Jess has also been in charge of some of Australia’s biggest creative events including The Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards (SOYA), curator of Vivid Sydney Ideas and Curator of TEDx Sydney. She is also the head of a $500 million budget for the creative industries within the City of Sydney council.
In this interview, Jess talks about her career and the time she spent working with various individuals, including artists, designers, filmmaker, musicians and personalities in the fashion industry.
