Iain Murray believes education is power, and so he started a programme that continuously motivates and challenges vision-impaired students to do their best work and live their best life.
Iain is an engineer and is now on the mission to help blind or vision impaired students succeed in the field of information technology not only in Australia but all over the world.
Iain Murray is a professor of electronic engineering at Curtin University.
Growing up with a brother who was blind, Iain was inspired to do something nice – which on the wider perspective meant helping not only his brother but also a fairly large number of vision impaired people.
Iain later helped start volunteer organisation Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired (CAVI). Now, CAVI has students in locations around the world including South Africa, Europe, North America and Canada.
Through this philanthropic outreach, among others, Iain was awarded as a Member of the Order of Australia for service to people with vision impairment.
For Iain, success is enjoying what you do and contributing to society. In this interview, Ian talks about their work in CAVI, including insights on how they equip CAVI students and teachers alike with devices and Cisco technology.
He also shares his top tips for those wanting to enter the engineering industry, as well as his secrets in successfully managing a group of talented and diverse workforce.
