The Importance of Taking A Break
Before we even begin to take a break, the brain usually needs to articulate why we need one. Reducing stress and improving creativity are the top 2 reasons why pausing from work is so crucial, especially during this time. In today’s TIPS, Beyond A Break’s Lyndall Farley talks about the importance of taking a break.
Everyone in the world right now is rapidly adjusting to change. All the stress we are encountering stimulates high levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in our lives. This hormone is blamed for the worst diseases: heart attack and cancer, among other things. Stepping away from your normal routine and the things that stress you out will reduce stress and get you in a more relaxed and healthy state.
Creativity is another importance of taking a break. When you step out of your routine and step into a different environment, your mind starts working in a different way. You develop cognitive flexibility wherein new connections are fired up in your brain. This aspect of neuroplasticity also encourages previously disconnected parts of the brain to suddenly connect. This then leads to productivity and, most importantly, happiness.
We shouldn’t take the importance of taking a break lightly. Conscious effort to think about how to actively recharge is necessary. Fortunately for those who live in Australia, there are many things you can do and places you can visit to get that much-needed pause.
We hope you are getting enough breaks and taking it easy on yourself.
