Advice to Stop Talking and Start Doing: How to Start Taking Action
When working with a team, we can often plan and talk for months without actually being able to start something. Everyone’s conflicting ideas, catching up from leaves and vacations, and so many other things can get in the way. In today’s TIPS, Orange Mind’s Margriet Buseman shares some actionable advice on how to stop talking and start doing.
In a Design Sprint, it only takes 1 week to jump-start an idea. This is because there are people like Margriet Buseman who teaches people how to make decisions and start taking action. One way to do this is by making things explicit. Allot some focused time on one specific challenge. Let everyone in the group write down their opinions or goals. Put it to a vote and choose the Top 2 suggestions that would help with the challenge most. Discuss and let the solutions come forward. Then, move on to the next topic.
It all sounds fast and simple. However, the real challenge is finding focused time to talk without over-indulging any topic. After all, it is impossible to have all the answers. In the end, the learning comes with the doing. So, start taking action with your team today!
